Online sale & delivery of IMFL brands a hit in Guwahati

Over 170 online orders of various brands of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) have been successfully delivered so far in the city.

GUWAHATI: Over 170 online orders of various brands of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) have been successfully delivered so far in the city.

On July 22 this year the Assam Government had issued a gazette notification for online sale and delivery of IMFL brands in Guwahati. As per the guidelines a person can only order 3 litres of alcohol in a single order per day. A delivery person can carry maximum 9 litres of alcohol in one time. Both consumer and delivery person have to be above 21 years. The consumers have to upload their documents for age and address proofs online before making their orders. The delivery hours are between 11 am and 10 pm and there are currently two categories of delivery charges. For delivery within 1 km the charges are Rs 50, for delivery locations within 1 km and 2 km the charge is Rs 75.

"The actual online sale and delivery of various brands of IMFL started after July 25 this year. Till this date more than 170 online orders have been delivered. The number of online order is fast increasing. If the online sale and delivery of IMFL brands is successful in Guwahati, we will extend it to other parts of the State," a source in the Excise department said.

On the other hand a survey on "Consumer pulse on home delivery of liquor", carried out by the International Spirits and Wines Association of India (ISWAI) has found that 70 per cent of alcohol-beverage consumers in Assam now prefer to have liquor home delivered. The survey has highlighted that convenience and maintenance of social distancing are major factors behind the State's alcohol-beverage consumers' preference for home delivery services. In fact, majority of consumers surveyed stated they would use the home delivery service for social distancing or safety, while the rest would use it for convenience as against buying from a retail store.
