GUWAHATI: Only regionalism can establish democracy on strong and positive foundations in the State, said president of AJP (Assam Jatiya Parishad) president Lurinjyoti Gogoi on Thursday.
Addressing the media at the party head office at Ambari here, Gogoi added, "I believe each Assamese will realize this fact in the days to come.
"The recently concluded Assembly polls was key to strongly establish regionalism in Assam. It is not possible to forge a political alternative in just 100 days. It is quite a challenging task to remain true to one's principles and counter the cash-backed politics backed on one hand and that of divisive politics on the olther hand. However, we remained true to our principles and offered a viable pollitical alternative to the people of the State. I also accept the fact that we could not convince the electorates on the key issues of the State."
Stating, "We humbly accept the verdict of the electorates," he added, "we are committed to fight for the rights of the people; and, we will continue to do so.
He further said, "The masive support we got — both in the pre and post-poll stages — is our prime strength. We will firmly move ahead with more confidence."
Gogoi further said, "The alliance of the Congress with communal forces paved the path for the BJP. Now, the Congress should do introspection about its strategies."
