GUWAHATI, July 19: Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal, while talking to the press in New Delhi today, said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been constantly monitoring the flood situation in Assam and assistance has been received from the Central Government in maging the situation.

Sonowal also reiterated that relief and rescue operations have been going on without any hiccups and no shortage of fund is there as all necessary steps have been initiated by the government to overcome the problems created by floods. He also remarked that people’s representatives have also involved themselves effectively in the relief and rescue operations in their respective constituencies and they are actively cooperating with the administration for the welfare of the people.

Commenting on his trip to the tiol capital, Sonowal said that this visit gave him the opportunity to take up the issues of flood and erosion with the Prime Minister along with Union Fince and DONER Ministers separately and they have assured of all cooperation in this regard.

Referring to the allegations of the Opposition Congress party of not handling the flood situation properly by the government, Sonowal stated that Congress is trying to take political mileage out of the whole situation through cheap gimmicks and false rhetoric. He also said that during the 15 years reign of Congress in the state, embankment construction was started only during monsoons before the floods and as a result these embankments remained incomplete making the people suffer the fury of floods. On the other hand, the present government has completed construction of 85 embankments that was started in December 2016 much before the onset of monsoons, Sonowal added.

The Chief Minister also appealed to all sections not to seek political advantage from disasters like flood and erosion.
