Orunodoi 2.0: Widow beneficiary to get Rs 1,250 per month

GUWAHATI: Two widow pension schemes-the Indira Miri Universal Widow Pension and the Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension-are underway in the state. However, with the merger of the Indira Miri Universal Widow Pension (IMUWP) Scheme with Orunodoi 2.0, its beneficiaries will get it under the Orunodoi benefits.

According to an official of the Panchayat and Rural Development (P&RD) Department, the Indira Miri Universal Widow Pension Scheme has 2,12,368 beneficiaries and the Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme has 1,16,112 beneficiaries in the state. Each of the beneficiaries gets Rs 300 per month in each of the schemes. "In her budget speech on March 16 this year, Finance Minister Ajanta Neog made an announcement that the beneficiaries of the Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme would be included in Orunodoi 2.0. We have already started the process for this. From this financial year, each of these widow beneficiaries will get Rs 1,250 per month, against Rs 300 per month earlier," the official said.
