GUWAHATI: Over 500 primary teachers of the State have sent letters to the Prime Minister of India suggesting him to cancel the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act). Following an appeal from the Asom Rajyik Prathamik Shikshak Sanmilani (ARPSS), over 200 protest meetings were in Guwahati and other districts and sub-divisions in the State against the CAA on Thursday.
In Guwahati, under the aegis of the Guwahati Mahakuma Prathamik Shikshak Sanmilani a protest meeting was held in front of Shikshak Bhawan at Chandmari. At his inaugural speech, the Sanmilani’s secretary general Ratul Chandra Goswami said, “We demand the Prime Minister to accept the pleas made by teachers of the State to cancel the CAA. There’s no need of the State Government to issue a false clarification on the CAA. The people of Assam are not ready to accept the CAA that has trampled the Assam Accord.”
The meeting paid homage to those who lost their lives in police firing during the agitation against the CAA.
