Paltan Bazar Police arrested fraudster for duping a person of Rs 2,98,000

A fraudster named Mantu Hussain alias Hamidul Islam (29) has been arrested by the Paltan Bazar Police for duping a person of Rs 2,98,000 on the pretext of providing health insurance.

GUWAHATI: A fraudster named Mantu Hussain alias Hamidul Islam (29) has been arrested by the Paltan Bazar Police for duping a person of Rs 2,98,000 on the pretext of providing health insurance.

According to reports, Hussain was staying as a tenant at the victim's house at Gandhi Basti for last three months. He gained the trust of the victim, who is a retired senior citizen, by pretending to be from the same town (Golaghat) as the latter. The fraudster convinced the victim that he can provide health insurance of Rs 4 lakh and the latter only has to pay a monthly fee of around Rs 250 per month. Bringing the victim into confidence, the accused collected two blank cheques from the former by stating to submit the monthly health insurance fees by himself. However, under the name of a woman named Maijan Begam, he deposited the cheques and transferred an amount of Rs 2,98,000 into her account. The police said the accused paid Begam Rs 10,000 to cash the cheque under her name. Begum, a resident of Gandhi Basti was arrested around 20 days ago. In this regard, a case - 953/20 u/s 420/379 has been registered at the Paltan Bazar PS.
