GUWAHATI: Around 16,000 contractual NHM (National Health Mission) paramedical workers protested here at the Guwahati Club Rotary on Monday demanding regularization of their jobs and inclusion of their basic pay under the 7th Pay Commission.

"The number of medical colleges is increasing day by day but till now no action has been taken by the Government to regularize our jobs despite of working amid the COVID-19 pandemic," said All Assam NHM Para-Medical Employees' Union secretary Kalpana Bora.

The other workers of the Union stated that on December 29 their issues were raised at the Assam State Assembly by Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The Cabinet accepted all the demands of the workers excluding the increase of basic pay, the workers added.

Following the protest, the workers sent a memorandum to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. They threatened to halt their health services in the coming days if the Government fails to fulfill their demands.
