Fisheries Minister Parimal Shuklabaidya handed over 4 awards and citations won by Assam on World Fisheries Day

GUWAHATI: Fisheries Minister Parimal Shuklabaidya handed over 4 awards and citations won by Assam on World Fisheries Day 2020 to Chief Minister at the latter's official residence on Thursday.

Congratulating the minister and the officials of the Fisheries department for winning national level awards, the Chief Minister said that it was the result of hard work of last four years.

Sonowal urged the officials of the Fisheries department to make Assam one of the top fish-producing states in the country with the help of latest technology and innovation in the sector.

During the meeting, Shuklabaidya apprised the Chief Minister about various initiatives taken by the Fisheries department and said that Assam is currently producing 3.73 lakh metric tonnes of fish annually as the state has become self-reliant in fish production.

Commissioner and Secretary Rakesh Kumar and other key officials of the department were also present at the meeting, a press release said.

Notably, the four awards won by Assam at World Fisheries Day 2020 programme recently held at New Delhi for exemplary performance in fisheries sector included best state, best district, best semi government organization and best fish farmer. The awards were presented by Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Pratap Chandra Sarengi and the best state award comprised of Rs 10 lakh and a citation. This is a notable success for Assam in fisheries at the national level.
