Passing away of Dilip Kumar Hazarika mourned, last rites performed at Navagraha cemetery

 GUWAHATI: Even as the people of Assam mourned the loss of Dilip Kumar Hazarika, his last rites were performed at the Navagraha cemetery on Friday.

Hazarika passed away peacefully after a protracted bout with age-related ailments on Thursday evening, at the age of 89 years. He was a resident of the city's Uzan Bazar area.

The news of his decease was followed by an outpouring of condolences and tributes from all corners, including a heartfelt message from Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, in which he said, "The news of the passing away of prominent actor, writer, and advocate Dilip Kumar Hazarika is saddened. The death of this versatile personality, who earned a reputation for his outstanding performances in several Assamese films, including 'Maniram Dewan,' is a great loss to the socio-cultural sphere of Assam. I wish Mr. Hazarika eternal peace and extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved family."

Hazarika will be remembered as a multifaceted personality, renowned for his contributions to cinema, literature, and politics.

Dilip Kumar Hazarika will remain forever celebrated in the annals of Assamese cinema history for his brilliant portrayal of the character of Piyoli Barua in the classic film 'Maniram Dewan'. The perfection he brought to the portrayal of the character left an indelible mark on the hearts of cine-lovers.

For over six decades, Dilip Kumar Hazarika was an integral part of the historic Kumar Bhaskar Natya Mandir in Uzan Bazar, from the 1950s to the 2010s. The hallowed institution served as a hub for theatre and cultural activities in the city during this period and Hazarika's influence was marked in its upsurge.
