GUWAHATI: A section of people in the city is not taking the nationwide lockdown seriously to effectively tackle the outbreak of coronavirus.

Despite continuous appeals by the government, people are neglecting the advisory of social distancing and are loitering on the streets just like a regular day in various bylanes and bastis of the city. While the heart of the city GS Road is carrying a deserted look, the effect of lockdown in areas like Dharapur, Azara, Panndu Boragaon, Pamohi, Sawkuchi are minimal. On the pretext of buying essential items people are avoiding to restrict themselves to their areas. In various interior areas between Jalukbari to Khanapara highway, people were seen indulging in leisure activities like playing cards, cricket and carom near the streets making a mockery of the ‘social distancing’ advisory issued by the government.
