Pesticides found in vegetables at Pamohi market in Guwahati city

GUWAHATI: As per the tests carried out by the food safety department, traces of pesticides were found in several vegetables sold at the Pamohi vegetable wholesale market in the city. The department had collected samples of several vegetables on May 5 from the market and sent for the tests, out of which carrots, brinjals and thistle gourd tested positive for the presence of harmful pesticides.

Resmethrin was detected in the carrots, procymidone in the brinjals, and chlorothalonil in the thistle gourd samples. The officials mentioned that these chemicals are harmful to humans, especially pregnant women, children, and old people. They added that from now on, they will conduct regular checks in the market to prevent the presence of such chemicals.
