GUWAHATI: Science and Technology is
the bedrock for bringing impetus to the entrepreneurial opportunities in
agriculture and allied sectors for farmers, experts opined in a Webinar
organized by Press Information Bureau, Guwahati on the topic 'Agriculture and
Allied Industry and its immense potential in Assam in entrepreneurial and
socio-economic Atmanirbhar Bharat development' here on Friday.
Experts from Industry fraternity along with academicians deliberated and discussed about the opportunities in the agriculture and allied sector from academic and policy perspective.
Padmashri Dr Uddhab Kumar Bharali said that agriculture and technological development has to happen in tandem. He said that the efficacy of technology is of prime importance from the perspective of entrepreneurial opportunities for farmers and also for market demand sustainability. Dr Bharali said that technology plays a game changer role when it comes to brining efficiency and productivity in agriculture. He said that low-cost machinery and its effect on productivity could act as motivators for entrepreneurs to join agriculture as a business opportunity. He said changing life of farmers has to be a holistic process of providing facilities for developing quality agricultural products. In this perspective, he said that allied sectoral development of agriculture plays a vital role.
Dr SK Md Azizur Rehman, Senior Scientist and Head, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, ICAR Bardhaman said that policies and technology play a very vital role for agriculture and its growth and development. He said that low-cost machineries along with awareness could generate the traction in the agriculture field so that entry in the domain is productive and efficacious for farmers.
Prof (Dr) ZR Azad, Faculty of Agriculture from Aligarh Muslim University said that mixed farming along with Cooperative farming and development of Centres to process Primary Food could provide the competence for comparative advantage for farmers. He said that in that endeavour, training and Human Capital Development with awareness programme could provide the impetus for better results. Lauding efforts of PIB Guwahati for the webinar initiative, he said that equitable development along with environment friendly growth is the reason for success of farming entrepreneurs, a press release said.
