GUWAHATI: Technology plays a quintessential role in awareness to tackle COVID-19 issues, experts emphasized in a webinar organized by Press Information Bureau (PIB), Guwahati on the topic here on Friday. A Galaxy of experts from industry and socio-economic fraternity, government sector along with academicians deliberated and discussed about the topic from varied perspective.
Professor (Dr.) Rajesh Ganapathy, Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Awardee in Physical Sciences (2020), Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, an institute of the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India said that role of Technology is pivotal for information dissemination and thereby, for COVID awareness. He said that social media, technology, academic classes on the internet and distance learning are adding vistas of communication in this dynamic information management process.
Professor (Dr.) Kishor Goswami, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, IIT Kharagpur said that technology can educate, warn and empower the citizens of the country with information. He said that latest technology such as analytics, data and information sensitivity analysis, genetic informatics, artificial intelligence and high-end data computing technology could help tackle the issues related to COVID.
Dr. Bhabesh Hazarika, Economist, National Institute of Public Finance and Policy, Delhi mentioned the importance of a comprehensive programme on health and risk communication with emphasis on COVID and its Information Management with Technology playing a vital and pivotal role. He said that importance of awareness is the essence of Information Management at this critical juncture of COVID management and its risk mitigation.
The webinar was managed and coordinated by Samrat Bandyopadhyay, Joint Director, PIB Guwahati. Pallav Chakravorty, Deputy Director, PIB welcomed the experts, along with students, eminent journalists and other government senior officials from Doordarshan Guwahati, Regional Outreach Bureau, Guwahati, All India Radio Guwahati were also present on the occasion.
