GUWAHATI: Leader of Opposition of the Assam Legislative Assembly Debabrata Saikia has written a letter to Railway Minister Piyush Goel seeking his intervention into the alleged conspiracy to abolish around 1,000 posts in Tinsukia division of NF Railway.
In his letter to Goel written on Friday, the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader alleged that since 2017 various posts like clerks, office superintendents, employees’ welfare inspectors and legal advisers etc have been lying vacant. However, the Railway department has not been filling up them. “The Railway Mazdoor Union has alleged that instead of filling up the vacant posts, the department has been trying to abolish the posts,” Saikia said. The CLP leader further said that abolishing such important posts will affect works of double-laning, electrification of railway lines in the Northeast etc. He also demanded the Union minister to take measures to man all unmanned level-crossings in Assam and the Northeast. He requested the Union minister to start appointment in NF Railway and give such jobs to the educated youths of the region.
