GUWAHATI: State BJP unit president Bhabesh Kalita on Friday said that the Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has brought peace and stability to the North-East.
While attending a function to mark the inauguration of the State BJP unit's mouthpiece 'Asomiya BJP Barta' at the party head office at Hengerbari here, Kalita mentioned that several peace agreements had been signed in the region in the last few years under the aegis of the Central Government and over 7,000 militants had surrendered so far.
Moreover, notifications imposing the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) had been revoked in case of Tripura in 2015 and in 2018 in case of Meghalaya. Now, the territorial ambit of the AFSPA has been reduced in case of Assam, Nagaland and Manipur.
Kalita expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister and Home Minister Amit Shah for this step.
