GUWAHATI: In accordance with an order of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Pollution Control Board, Assam (PCBA) has issued a directive for verifying whether the stone crusher units in the State are using legal sources of raw material.

The PCBA recently issued an office order whereby it informed its regional heads that all stone crushing units will have to furnish documentary evidence regarding legal sources of stone quarry or sources of stone/raw materials in their online consent applications. This will include evidence regarding any captive stone quarry in Assam or any neighbouring State or country.

The PCBA further directed that the regional heads will have to verify that all stone quarries are covered under the consent mechanism. In case of units which have been already granted consent, the regional heads will have to carry out an amendment to include a provision regarding legal source of raw material to ensure that only stone crusher units with legal source of raw material can operate in the State.
