GUWAHATI: The Pratibandi Suraksha Sanstha, Assam (PSSA) has alleged deprivation of rights of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) by the State Government in conducting the examinations for third and fourth-grade posts numbering around 26,000. The written tests are on August 21 and 28, 2022.

Talking to the media today, PSSA secretary Nripen Malakar said, "The government has not mentioned any special facilities for PwD candidates in the recruitment examinations slated for August 21 and 28. The admit cards of the two tests have no mention regarding facilities required for persons with disabilities. They, however, made special mention of Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates. According to rules, assistants are mandatory for persons with disabilities in examinations. The admit cards made no such mention. It has taken PwD candidates aback.

"While advertising the posts, we (PSSA) appealed to the government to exempt PwD candidates from paying examination fees. Our appeal fell on the deaf ear of the government. After the BJP made it to Dispur for the second term, the Cabinet decided to reserve four per cent vacancies for PwD candidates. However, these two examinations made no mention of reservations for PwD candidates.

"We appeal to the State Government to make public the correct list of candidates of 511 fourth grade posts for which Gauhati University conducted the written examination. We also demand the separation of the divyang pension from the Ounodoi scheme and hiking the pension amount from Rs 1,000 to Rs 3,000. If the government doesn't fulfil our demands, we will resort to taking to the streets."
