GUWAHATI: Panchayat and Rural Development (P&RD) Minister Naba Kumar Doley has asked the officials to complete the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (PMAY) – Rural within the stipulated time.
Along with the rest of the country, Awaas Week is being observed in Assam from November 16 to 22. On Friday i.e. November 20 was observed as Awaas Diwas where Doley wished the beneficiaries of the scheme and P&RD officials.
He appealed to the beneficiaries and the officials to complete the work with accountability so that needy people in rural areas can build their houses within 2022.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi started the PMAY-Rural on November 20, 2016 to provide houses to needy people in rural areas by the year 2022. To achieve the target in the stipulated period, November 20 is being observed as Awaas Diwas since 2017. Similarly, Awaas Week is celebrated from November 16 to 22.
Through this scheme, 8,81,833 houses were targeted to be completed under 2022. Till date, 4,52,675 families have been allocated with the PMAY-Rural houses, out of which 3,50,935 houses have been completed. Construction of 1,01,740 houses are underway, stated a release by P&RD.
