GUWAHATI: "The Assamese is a language-based community. The Assamese language has brought together people from different religion and ethnic groups. With this, the greater Assamese community has been formed," said AJP (Assam Jatiya Parishad) president Lurin Jyoti Gogoi while attending a tribute programme to observe the death anniversary of the first 'martryr' of Language Movement, Ranjeet Borpujari.

Gogoi stressed that the Assamese language has a victim of language cannibalism since British Rule. "To survive as a community, we will have to focus to preserve the Assamese and other regional languages and cultures," Gogoi added. During the occasion, an e-magazine – Pratyahban was released by former president of AXX (Axam Xahitya Xabha) Dr Dhurbajyoti Bora.
