GUWAHATI: President of India, Droupadi Murmu, praised Assam for its hospitality and Bihu dance. She made such an expression while inaugurating the Gaj Utsav-2023 (elephant festival) at Kaziranga this morning.

In her inaugural speech, she said, "During my journey from the airstrip to here (Kaziranga), I felt the warmth from a lot of brothers and sisters, young and old as well, of this state. I am amazed to have seen such a rich welcome. The hospitality that I received in Assam will remain indelible in my mind. This is the culture and tradition of Assam. Hospitality is in your veins. Please keep this up. Assam is a state known for tourism. Hospitality is very important for any tourism-oriented state. Thanks."

Regarding the Bihu dance, the President said, "When I came here yesterday, your Chief Minister and our beloved Himanta Biswa Sarma and the Governor Sahab organised a dance-and-song recital on the occasion of the Gaj Mohotsav. I had a glimpse of the Bihu dance. I have been in public life for a long time and have had the opportunity to visit many states. However, the Bihu dance of Assam is a bit unique. I am mesmerised to see the Bihu dance. To develop this dance form is the responsibility of all of you."

She congratulated the people of Assam for Rongali Bihu in advance.
