Price Hike Crisis: Congress to stage series of protests from July 7

All the State committees of the APCC (Assam Pradesh Congress Committee) will carry out a series of protests from July 7 to 17 against the spiralling prices of petrol, diesel and essential commodities.

GUWAHATI: All the State committees of the APCC (Assam Pradesh Congress Committee) will carry out a series of protests from July 7 to 17 against the spiralling prices of petrol, diesel and essential commodities.

The APCC on Monday informed the media that the decision to stage the protests was taken in an AICC (All India Congress Committee) meeting convened on June 28. In the meeting, Congress president Sonia Gandhi had issued instructions to State committees to carry out the protests.

On Sunday, in a zoom meeting of all district presidents with AICC general secretary and APCC in-charge Jitendra Singh Alwar and APCC president Ripun Bora along with MPs and senior leaders, a series of programmes were chalked out.

"From July 7 to 17, all blocks within each district committee will organize protests maintaining the COVID protocols. They will sit in agitation for 2 hours and protest by taking out pots and pans with members of Mahila Congress, Youth Congress and other block-level organizations," said APCC Media Department Chairperson Bobbeeta Sharma.

The APCC will organize cycle rallies in cities and towns under District Congress Committees (DCC) which will be attended by elected party representatives of Municipal Corporation and office bearers of DCC. The protestors will carry placards raise slogans against the price rise situation.

On July 17, a protest rally will be taken out in Guwahati that will be attended by the APCC president, CLP leader, MPs, MLAs, senior leaders, office bearers and members of the Congress party.

Moreover, according to Sharma, a signature campaign will be initiated in petrol pumps under the DCC as a form of protest and to raise awareness against the price hike crisis.
