GUWAHATI: Assam State Primary Teachers’ Association (ASPTA) had an interaction with various associations regarding the creation of headmaster posts in the primary schools, and the teachers’ body also had a meeting on Karma Parishad where they had a discussion on how they can bring about changes in the future.
The meeting between various associations raised the point that, while the whole nation is celebrating the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, the primary schools are working without any superior body, or should it be said, without headmasters. This is creating an unhealthy situation in primary schools. In the meeting, they came to the conclusion that the working of the primary schools without the headmaster has turned into a problem, and this problem has become a mass demand for the schools.
The creation of headmasters’ posts should be a priority for the vernacular-medium schools to work smoothly. The association urged the government to create the headmasters’ posts, which is crucial for the administration of vernacular-medium schools.
In the Karma Parishad meeting, they came up with decisions: ASPTA, from June 6 to June 15, will conduct mass signature campaigns regarding the creation of the headmaster post, and from June 10 to June 19, they will have interactive sessions in every district. The graduate teachers of primary schools were given a grade pay of Rs 8700 under the recommendation of the seven-pay commission. But they could receive this only for 17 months. The Finance Department was rejecting the file regarding the grade pay. So, the ASPTA decided to move to court regarding this matter.
AASU Secretary Shankarjyoti Baruah, AJYCP President Palash Changmai, Indegenious Tribal Sahitya Sabha Secretary Komolakanto Mushahari, Bodo Sahitya Sabha, Student Federation of India, Shiksha Adhikar Mancha, Elora Vigyan Samiti, Gyan Vigyan Samiti, Safe Education, Bharat Satra Federation, and others attended the meeting.
