GUWAHATI: The construction of the four market complexes in Ganeshguri, Ulubari, Fatasil and Rupnagar under Guwahati Municipal Corporation has been halted for the last two years.

As per reports, the project started in 2015 and the aim of the project was to provide vending zones for the people of the city. According to sources, the work of the Ulubari complex has been halted due to a dispute between the GMC and the contractor to which the project was given. The GMC is currently planning to give the project to a new contractor to complete the project. The Ganesguri complex is near about complete but the final touch to the building has not been given yet.

Meanwhile, Rupnagar and Fatasil complexes’ work was stationed because a case has been lodged by the Local Vendors Association who are opposing the decision to relocate to the complexes. According to them the vending zones are too small to accommodate every shop. A local vendor stated, “We demand a permanent place to set up our shops. The vending zones which the GMC aims to allot are us are very small and it won’t be convenient for us.”
