GUWAHATI: The people evicted from the Silsako wetland staged another round of protests on Friday, and the situation worsened after an engineer with the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) visited the location. He was held captive by the agitated protesters.

The officials reportedly visited the location to take stock of the ongoing progress, but the situation turned tense when the locals blocked his vehicle. Dispur Police was informed about the situation, leading to the deployment of staff at the locality to control the situation.

One of the protesters mentioned, "The Chief Minister had promised that proper arrangements would be made for our rehabilitation, but nothing has been done in those lines as of now. So it has become essential for all of us to save our homes and not allow them to take away our houses."

Another protester said, "We are willing to put our lives at risk. Let the government drive their JCBs over us. They must pay heed to our demands and take appropriate actions based on the same."
