GUWAHATI: The GMC link road is an important road for the people of the city, especially during peak hours, but the same has been in ruins for several months now, causing problems for the people of the locality. The renovation and reconstruction of the drains that run by the side of the road remain incomplete, as does the work on the road itself. Not only does this short-stress road have a large number of potholes, but whenever it rains, the sewage and dirty water overflow from the drains and flow into the GMC link road, causing massive problems for the people.

It runs parallel to the GS Road from Ganeshguri to the Gauhati Medical College, provides some respite from the heavy traffic on the GS Road, and is the only way for the students of the educational institution situated on the road. It is also essential for the large number of people residing there. In such conditions, the public has raised the question of how long the administration will take to bring it back to usable condition. A doctor working at the GMC mentioned that it is impossible to use the road when it rains, and even when it does not, this road is extremely uncomfortable to drive. Similarly, a student of the NEF College mentioned that this road is a danger for drivers and pedestrians alike, and even a slight shower creates nauseating conditions.

It remains to be seen how much longer the local administration takes to pay heed to the demands of the public and improve the road conditions in different parts of the city.
