Punjab National Bank, Guwahati Zone (NE) felicitates Lovlina Borgohain

Lovlina Borgohain, the first-ever Olympic medal winner from Assam was felicitated by the PNB’s (Punjab National Bank) Zonal Office for North East India in a ceremony at the Bank’s Kamrup Circle Office situated at Dharapur, Guwahati.

GUWAHATI: Lovlina Borgohain, the first-ever Olympic medal winner from Assam was felicitated by the PNB's (Punjab National Bank) Zonal Office for North East India in a ceremony at the Bank's Kamrup Circle Office situated at Dharapur, Guwahati.

On the occasion, a cheque of Rs 5 lakh was presented to the ace boxer by S.S. Singh, Zonal Head & General Manager of the Bank. The pugilist from Assam scripted history when she clinched the bronze medal at the recently concluded Tokyo Olympics, thereby becoming the first-ever Olympian and an Olympics medal winner from the State.

Singh stated that "the 'PNB Parivaar' was deeply honoured to felicitate the daughter of Assam and pride of India that won the world".

As a token of gratitude to the boxer, Singh announced that her native Bormukhiya Village in Golaghat district of Assam will be adopted by Punjab National Bank for complete digitization and 'Financial Inclusion'.

Notably, the Bank recently adopted the native village of another Medal winner from the North East — Mirabai Chanu from Manipur. The Bank also felicitated Lovlina's father — Tiken Borgohain.

Speaking on the occasion, Lovlina and her father Tiken Borgohain thanked the Bank management for the gesture and hoped for continued support.

The event was also attended by Sanjeev Singha, the Regional Director of RBI (Reserve Bank of India), Guwahati. Singha expressed profound happiness in Lovlina's remarkable achievement and hoped to see her repeating a similar feat in the Paris Olympics in 2024.

Singha also thanked PNB for leading the way in ensuring accessible banking for the people of Assam and India at large by way of Financial Inclusion programmes, spreading Financial Literacy across the State and working tirelessly in even the remotest corners of the State.

"The 'PNB Parivaar' has wished Lovlina Borgohain to embody the true spirit of the Great General from Assam — Lachit Borphukon while embarking on a journey towards achieving sporting excellence and also to become a role model for the world to see.
