GUWAHATI: Acing on a tipoff, personnel of the Badarpur RPF (Railway Police Force) recovered a bag containing 40 kg of ganja worth Rs. 2, 40,000 (approximately) from a coach of a train on July 27.

The Agartala SRP (Superintendent Rail-way Police) had informed the Senior Divisional Security Commissioner of Lumding RPF about the possibility of drugs or contrabands being transported in the 02501 Agartala-New Delhi AC Special Express train. At that time, the train had already crossed the Dharmanagar station. From Lumding, the intelligence was immediately shared with the Badarpur RPF officials, who immediately launched a search operation when the train reached the Badarpur Station at about 09: 58 pm.

While conducting intense search, the RPF team detected a blue-coloured trolley bag and a small shoulder bag under berth no 64 of coach No 7. But they did not find any passenger sitting near berth no 63 or 64 of the coach. So the bags were off-loaded as unclaimed by the RPF personnel. Later, the bags were weighed and found to contain about 40 kgs of ganja worth about Rs 2, 40,000 approximately. The RPF informed the Badarpur GRP (Government Railway Police) about this seizure.

In another development earlier that day, Agartala police personnel also seized 23 kgs of ganja from the possession of a person at Platform Number 1 of Agartala Railway Station at about 04:40 pm before the scheduled departure of the 02501 Agartala-New Delhi AC Special Express train.

The apprehended person has been identified as Bapi Sarkar (18 years). He is son of late Madan Sarkar, resident of Sudhai Mahan in West Tripura. The person kept the ganja in a red trolley bag. A case was also registered by the Agartala GRP vide no 3/2020 dated July 27, 2020 under various provisions of the NDPS Act.

Further investigation of the case is being undertaken, stated a release by the Maligaon CPRO, Subhanan Chanda.
