Railway Protection Force arrests two in theft case in Guwahati

The RPF (Railway Protection Force) on Saturday arrested two persons for stealing three AC outer units from the office of Sr CDO office building located at Guwahati Railway Station yard near Solapara.

GUWAHATI: The RPF (Railway Protection Force) on Saturday arrested two persons for stealing three AC outer units from the office of Sr CDO office building located at Guwahati Railway Station yard near Solapara.

The accused —Dipankar Hazarika (19) and Umar Khan (36) stole the items on Friday.

On Saturday morning Dipankar Hazarika was picked up from the Solapara area and during interrogation, he confessed his involvement in the theft with some of his associates. He further stated that the stolen AC outdoor units were sold to one scrap shop owned by Juma Ali Khan located at KC Sen road near Solapara Parcel Gate under Paltanbazar Police Station. Accordingly, a raid and search were conducted in the said scrap godown with the help of Paltanbazar Police. During the search, Juma Ali Khan was not available. However, his brother Umar Khan, who is also associated with the scrap godown, was present and the search was conducted in presence of him and local witnesses. The value of the recovered materials is around Rs 12,000 and the arrested persons will be forwarded to the Court of Special Railway Magistrate, Guwahati on Monday. A case vide No 1(6)2021 under section 3(a) RP(UP) Act has been registered against the accused.
