GUWAHATI: In a crackdown against e-touts, the Crime Intelligence Branch of Railway Protection Force (RPF) Guwahati is continuously conducting raids to curb the menace of illegal ticketing.

From 2019 to July 2020, the RRF has registered 17 cases against illegal e-ticketing in the city. In this connection, the RPF has arrested 21 persons and seized tickets worth Rs 8,82,311.

Despite the RPF's vigilance, many agencies are running the e-ticket rackets illegally. According to a RPF source, such agencies procure and sell Tatkal tickets after creating multiple online identities. According to the IRCTC norms, the ticketing agencies should use their agency ids to book tickets. However, they use personal user ids and use various software to book several tickets at once. Due to this practice, the Railways are not getting any benefit and also the general public is facing harassment due to unavailability of tickets, the source asserted.

On the other hand, the RPF has also registered around 17 cases related to theft of passengers' belongings. With 18 arrests, the Force has recovered materials worth Rs 2,19,000. During the aforementioned period, smuggled goods worth Rs 35,23,000 were recovered. Along with these cases, the Force has recovered three stolen motorcycles that were being transported from New Delhi to Guwahati by train. The total value of the recovered motorcycles is Rs 4, 20,000 and six bike thieves were arrested during the period.
