Rains predicted across Northeast India in coming five days

The Indian Meteorological Department has announced the arrival of the Southwest Monsoon over Kerala on Thursday. It was originally predicted to start on June 4, compared to the usual start on June 1.

GUWAHATI: The Indian Meteorological Department has announced the arrival of the Southwest Monsoon over Kerala on Thursday. It was originally predicted to start on June 4, compared to the usual start on June 1.

The northeastern part of the country is also predicted to receive rain in the coming five days, providing respite from the ongoing heat wave. Light to moderate rainfall along with gusts of wind are expected between June 8 and June 12. However, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura can receive heavy to very heavy rains on June 9. Thunderstorms are also predicted in the isolated locations of the region during these days. They also mentioned that the conditions are favourable for the further advance of the southwest monsoon into some parts of the northeastern states until June 9. Moisture incursion due to strong low-level southerly or southwesterly winds from the Bay of Bengal to Northeast India is also predicted in the coming days.
