GUWAHATI: The BJP-BPF tryst is under strain with BJP Assam Pradesh president Ranjit Kumar Das dropping a broad hint at the party severing its ties with the BPF.

For the past few days Dass has been vocal on the party not being happy with the BPF. "The process of severing ties between the BJP and the BPF had been started by the BPF first when it fought the panchayat election in the BTAD alone, without discussing it with us. This apart, the administration of Hagrama Mahilary discriminated upon a few sections in the BTAD. Development in the BTAD hasn't been as expected," Dass said recently.

Talking to the media in Guwahati on Thursday, Dass said, "It came to the fore during the last Lok Sabha poll when they lost the Kokrajhar constituency. While the BJP took lead in Bhabanipur and Sorbhog LAC segments, the BPF failed in the LAC segments held by them. The BPF has lost people's support. On the contrary, the BJP has gained popularity in the BTR. Our poll rallies are being attended by 12,000-15,000 people.

"I'll let the party high command know my opinion for severing ties with the BPF. However, it's the party high command that'll take the final decision. However, our alliance with the AGP will continue."

Meanwhile, the State BJP held its office-bearers' meeting at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan here with Dass in the chair on Thursday. The meeting prepared the party's strategy for the Tiwa and BTC polls.
