* Six females among 18 arrested

GUWAHATI: For the maiden time since the launch of the anti-narcotics operations across the State, Guwahati Police has achieved a major breakthrough by busting an inter-State cocaine racket for the maiden time. Altogether 18 persons — including six women have been apprehended from the site. The Police seized 3.61 gram of cocaine along with three types of weed and opium from their possession.
Police sources informed that the 18 persons were taking part in the rave party without following the COVID-19 protocols. The raid in the apartment on the third floor of Riveria Apartment in Kharghuli took place after 11:30 pm on Friday night. The operation was launched following tipoffs. The apartment belongs to Vikash Jain (55 years of age), who is a builder by profession. He has been already arrested along with 17 other persons who were present in the rave party.
The other 17 arrested persons are: Nassif Ahmed (53 years of age) — a resident of Paltan Bazar area; Sumit Kumar Beria (45 of Tarun Nagar in Bhangagarh); Chayan Saikia (32 of Sewali Path in Hatigaon); Amit Pegu (39 of Mathura Nagar in Dispur); Amit Baruah (45 of Zoo Narengi Road, Geetanagar); Ashok Barman (35 of Rukminigaon in Dispur); Hirendra Sinha (38 of Patharquary in Bishnu Nagar); Ridib Baruah (42 of Zoo Narengi Road, Geetanagar); Rakesh Bargohain (46 of Rukmini Nagar in Dispur); Pankaj Kakoti (Rukminigaon in Dispur); and Siddhartha Barthakur (29 of Dinesh Oja Path in Bhangagarh).
Among the 18 arrested persons are the following six females: Bonamallika Choudhury (45 years of Nabagraha Road, Chandmari); Debajani Hazarika (34 of Forest Gate, Narengi); Jubee Baruah (39 of B Baruah Rd, Paltan Bazar); Nayanika Baruah (45 of of Rukmini Nagar in Dispur); Debarshri Beria (45 of tarun Nagar); and Nimisha Bhuyan (35 of Zoo Narengi Road, Geetananagar). A case (282/21 u/s188 IPC, R/W Section 20(a)/21(b)/25/29 of NDPS Act has been registerd in this regard in Latasil Police Station.
According to Police, the rave party was organized to celebrate the birthday of Amit Baruah (45 years of age) — resident of Zoo Narengi Road in Geetanagar). The party was organized in Vikash Jain's apartment on the third floor of Riveria Apartment in Kharghuli).
A rave is an electronic music dance party that lasts all night. It can feature performances from DJs or live music performers along with rampant use of drugs. ... It can feature performances from DJs or live music performers. Raves usually take place in dark rooms filled with laser lights, strobes and for machines.
The Police produced the 18 arrested persons before the Court of CJM (Chief Judicial Magistrate) on Saturday. The Court remanded them to judicial custody.
