GUWAHATI: The regional meteorological centre has issued a 'yellow alert' for Guwahati forecasting heavy rainfall activity from May 16 to May 17, 2022.
RMC said a few spells of rain/thundershowers with one or two spells of intense rainfall (2-3 cm in 1 hour) is very likely over Guwahati city.
Visibility may become poor during the intense spell of rainfall.
Waterlogging in many parts of low lying areas
Inundation of roads/streets
Disruption of traffic due to waterlogging inroads
May cause localized and short term disruption to municipal services (water, electricity etc)
May trigger landslide/landslip on the hills
Follow any traffic advisories
Avoid going to areas that face water logging problems often
Avoid staying in landslide-prone areas
• A north-south trough roughly along Long.89°E to the north of Lat.22°N. between 2.1 and 3.1 km above mean sea level.
• Moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal is likely to continue over to Northeast India due to strong lower level Southerly/ Southwesterly winds during 16-19 May 2022.
Under the influence of the above systems, widespread to fairly widespread rainfall accompanied by heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely during 16-17 May 2022 and heavy rainfall at isolated places during 18-19 May 2022 over Arunachal Pradesh; thunderstorm/lightning and heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places very likely during 16-18 May 2022 and heavy rainfall at isolated places during 19-20 May 2022 over Assam; thunderstorm/lightning and heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places with isolated extremely heavy falls very likely during 16-17 May 2022 and with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Meghalaya o0n 18 May 2022 and heavy rainfall at isolated places during 19-20 May 2022; and thunderstorm/lightning and heavy rainfall at isolated places very likely over Nagaland-Manipur-Mizoram-Tripura during 16-18 May 2022.
