GUWAHATI: The Regional News Unit of Akashvani Guwahati celebrated its 67th Foundation Day on Monday. Dr Vashudha Gupta, Director General of Akashvani News attended this event in Guwahati and mentioned that Akashvani has credibility and accuracy and serves only news rather than views.
Hiren Chandra Nath, ADG of Assam Police said that for law enforcement agencies Akaahvani is a good medium to communicate with the people in a simple but effective way. Prasanta Borkakoty, Resident Chief Executive of Oil India Limited, Duliajan said that Akashvani helps to disseminate and communicate information to the people of the state.
Mrigen Sarania, Mayor of Guwahati Municipal Corporation; Onkar Kedia, Member of Assam Real State Appellate Tribunal and former DG of New Media Wing in I& B Ministry, R.C. Deka, VC Cotton University attended the inaugural session of the event.
Dr S. G . Kashyap, Information Commissioner, Assam State Information Commission, Madhulika Jonathan, Chief of UNICEF Field Office, Assam, Purnima Devi Barman, Wildlife Conservationist and Prasanta Borkakoty, Resident Chief Executive of Oil India Limited, Duliajan participated in the panel discussion titled “ Radio as Modern Day Communication”.
The Regional News Unit of Akashvani Guwahati started its broadcast on 15th May 1957. The Regional News Service of Akashvani has played a crucial role in providing news and information to the people of the North-Eastern states of India. The relevance of this news unit is particularly significant at the time of disaster management, especially floods in the region.
