GUWAHATI: The CM's (Chief Minister's) Special Vigilance Cell (SVC) has decided to appoint a registered "valuer" to assess the properties of suspended ACS (Assam Civil Service) officer Saibar Rahman, who is presently in judicial custody. According to source, the assessment will be done with respect to Rahman's paternal property at Kayakuchi in Barpeta district, two palatial houses at Hatigaon and Beltola in Guwahati; besides his innumerable landed properties in various other districts of the State.

It has been also learnt that each room in each of his palatial houses has lockers that are operational with fingerprints. The houses also have wifi-operational electronic and electrical gadgets. Besides the tiles of the floors of his rooms are all imported. The investigation agency will soon move the Special Court for forfeiture of all his properties.

According to sources, the CM's SVC officials have also taken details of the properties of Rahman's two sisters and also of his seven brothers.

When he was arrested by the sleuths of the CM's SVC in the disproportionate assets case in August 2021, he was working as a Deputy Secretary in the Welfare of Minorities Development Department of the Government of Assam.

Meanwhile, the CM's SVC has also received a complaint that Rahman was allegedly involved in several scams connected to the appointment of GBs (Gaon Burahs) and Lot Mandals as well as in illegal land-allotment scams in Mankachar. In this regard, a case is likely to be registered soon, added the source.
