GUWAHATI: The All India Mahila Congress (AIMC) has written a letter to the Chief Ministers of Assam and Meghalaya requesting the urgent rescue of the labourers who have been trapped in a coal mine in East Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya since May 30.

In the letter, the AIMC has mentioned the names of two coal mine workers — Anwar Hussain of Najatpur village of Katigorah, and Abdul Sukkur of Badarpur who are yet to be traced out. The AIMC requested the CMs to take necessary measures for the rescue of these above two labourers at the earliest possible.

"It is needless to mention here that the family members of the two labourers are suffering from serious mental agony about their whereabouts. They are anxiously waiting for the safe rescue of their wards by the administration. Considering the gravity of the situation, I would request you to kindly take necessary measures for the rescue of these above two labourers at the earliest possible," wrote AIMC president Sushmita Dev.
