Revised Final Electoral Rolls for Guwahati Published

Minister Keshab Mahanta said that a total of 1,31,859 names were deleted from the photo electoral roll after the draft list was published last year.

GUWAHATI: The office of the Assam Chief Electoral Officer under the Election commission of India has published the final revised photo electoral for Kamrup (Metro) on January 18.

The Kamrup (Metro) rolls consists-Jalukbari, Dispur, Gauhati East and West legislative assembly constituencies (LACs).

The notification states, "As per instruction of the Chief Electoral Officer, Assam vide letter No. ELE.17/2020/101 dtd. 15/01/2021, the Final Electoral Rolls for Special Summary Revision of Photo Electoral Rolls w.r.t. 01-01-2021 as the qualifying date for 51 - Jalukbari, 52 - Dispur, 53 - Gauhati East and 54 - Gauhati West LACs under Kamrup Metropolitan Election District, Guwahati have been published today, the 18th January 2021."

Further, the copy of the same has been kept for inspection for General Public at the office of the concerned EROs and in the office of the District Election Officer, Kamrup Metropolitan Election District, Guwahati, the notification added.

It is to be mentioned that the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sunil Arora will be in Assam for a 3-day visit to take stock of preparations for assembly polls this year.

The CEC will be accompanied by Election Commissioners Sushil Chandra and Rajiv Kumar, Director General of the Election Commission of India (ECI) Dharmendra Sharma, Deputy Election Commissioner Chandra Bhusan Kumar, Senior Principal Secretary Narendra N Butolia, Director of Expenditure Pankaj Srivastava and EVM consultant Vipin Katara.

Meanwhile, elections to the 126-member Assam assembly are likely to be held in March-April.

Earlier, in a written reply to a query from Congress MLA Sherman Ali Ahmed, Minister Keshab Mahanta said that names of over 1.3 lakh persons have been deleted from the recently published draft electoral roll in Assam.

The minister said a total of 1,31,859 names were deleted from the photo electoral roll after the draft list was published on November 18 this year after it was found out that the names primarily comprise those who have shifted permanently or are dead voters.
