GUWAHATI: Right-wing leader Satya Ranjan Borah on Friday filed an FIR against Ajmal Foundation for receiving funds from some foreign agencies, allegedly linked to terrorist groups. The foundation is run by the Member of Parliament Maulana Badruddin Ajmal.

The FIR, lodged with the Dispur Police Station is based on the report of Legal Rights Observatory (LRO), a legal rights body.

"Ajmal Foundation, an organisation run by Maulana Badruddin Ajmal, chief of AIUDF, is being funded by some foreign agencies which are related to funding different terrorist groups and their terror activities as reported by an NGO Legal Rights Observatory. Considering the report, we want proper investigation in this connection under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act… Ajmal Foundation has misused those foreign funds in several anti-national activities," alleged Borah in the FIR.

Refuting the allegations, Badruddin Ajmal on Friday told reporters that his Foundation receives money under the Foreign Contribution (regulation) Act (FCRA), 2010.

The FRCA is a legislation to regulate the acceptance and utilisation of foreign contribution or foreign hospitality by certain individuals or associations or companies. The Act has also provisions to prohibit acceptance and utilisation of foreign contribution or foreign hospitality for any activities detrimental to the national interest.
