GUWAHATI: Miscreants robbed the Meghdoot Bhawan (Guwahati GPO) here, which is located at a stone's throw from the offices of the Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (M) and the Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, and decamped with cash worth around Rs 3 lakh on Friday night.
Police sources said that the incident came to light when the officials of Meghdoot Bhawan visited the office this morning. It was found that the thieves had entered and ransacked the first floor up to the fifth floor of the building.
A case (No. 31/22 u/s 457/380 IPC) was registered at Panbazar police station in this connection and further investigation is underway.
According to the sources, at least 16 persons have been detained for questioning in this connection, including eight home guards.
Footage of the robbery was caught on CCTV cameras, the sources said.
