Ropeway service to be opened soon: GMDA chairman Ashok Singhal

GUWAHATI: The much awaited ropeway connecting North Guwahati and Guwahati will be opened soon for the public, said GMDA chairman Ashok Singhal. "The ropeway service will be opened within a short span of time. The project is almost complete and is under trial," said Singhal.

According to a GMDA source, the project cost of the ropeway is Rs 5 crore and it will be the longest ropeway in the country.

The entire ropeway services will be monitored with 58 CCTV cameras and the 1820-meter ride will take 7 to 8 minutes to complete. According to the source, each cabin will be able to carry around 30 persons; however till now the price of the tickets of the ropeway are yet to be finalized. "Citizens will be able to book daily and monthly tickets as well. The monthly ticket will allow a passenger to use the ropeway services for a period of one month, the source said," the source underlined.

Lastly, the GMDA official added that the entire contract of the ropeway service has been handed over to the Samir Damodar Ropeway Company.
