RPF Northeast Frontier Railway recovers contraband items worth more than Rs 23 lakh

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) recovered various contraband items worth more than Rs. 23 lakh on August 31 and September 1, 2021.

GUWAHATI: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) recovered various contraband items worth more than Rs. 23 lakh on August 31 and September 1, 2021. The contraband items include banned drug, liquor and ganja which were recovered during regular checks and drives at various stations and trains over NF Railway. RPF also apprehended four persons for alleged involvement in transportation of contraband items, stated a press release.

In an incident on September 1, acting on information, RPF team of Badarpur jointly with GRP officials and local police of Badarpur conducted checking in train No. 03173 UP (Sealdah - Agartala Special) on arrival at Badarpur railway station. During checking, they apprehended one person from the train. His bag was checked and 21 soap cases inside a toy car frame were found from the bag. The soap cases were packed with heroin. Later, the arrested person along with the seized drugs was taken to OC/Local PS, Badarpur for further investigation. Total weight of the seized drugs is 267 grams, worth about Rs. 18.69 lakh.

In another such incident on September 1, RPF CPDS (Crime Prevention and Detection Squad) of Alipurduar while checking in train No. 05653 DN (Guwahati - Jammu Tawi Express) from Kalaigram - Dhupguri station, apprehended one person and recovered 26 bottles liquor, worth about Rs. 8,155. Later, the apprehended person along with the recovered liquor were handed over to OC/GRPS/New Maynaguri who registered a case u/s 46 Bengal Excise Act.

Again on September 1, RPF team of Dimapur, while conducting check in train No. 05669 UP (Guwahati - Dibrugarh special) at Dimapur railway station against carrying of contraband goods, apprehended one person and recovered a bag containing six packets of ganja, weighing about 12 kg worth about Rs. 1.20 lakh. Later, the apprehended person along with the recovered ganja was handed over to OC/GRPS/Dimapur for disposal.

On that day, the RPF Task Force and CIB of Tinsukia along with RPF team of Furkating Outpost conducted a joint checking in train No. 05669 UP (Nagaland Express) at Furkating station. During checking, they apprehended one lady from coach No. A-1 and recovered three packet of ganja (wrapped with plastic) weighing about 6.29 kg worth about Rs. 62,000. Later, the apprehended lady along with the recovered ganja was handed over to OC/GRP/Mariani who registered a case u/s 20 (b) (ii) (b) NDPS Act.

On August 31, RPF team of Agartala in different checking conducted at Agartala railway station, recovered unclaimed ganja weighing about 16 kg worth about Rs. 1.60 lakh. Later, the recovered ganja was handed over to OC/GRP/Agartala for further necessary action. On that day, CIB team of RPF/Lumding conducted checking at Lumding railway station and recovered unclaimed ganja weighing about 8 kgs worth about Rs. 80,000. Later, the recovered ganja was handed over to OC/GRP/Lumding for disposal.
