GUWAHATI: Kamrup (M) DC Biswajit Pegu, who is also the chairman of the RTA (Regional Transport Authority) of the district, has said that the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) of the district is contemplating on shortening distances between city bus stops in Guwahati.
The RTA of the district had its meeting on Monday with Pegu in the chair. The DC made it clear at the meeting that all city buses in the district should run only on routes allotted to them by the district administration and the RTA. “The RTA has already taken measures for fixing city bus routes by holding meetings with the departments concerned. City buses should never violate this stricture and each and every city bus in the district should display its route number,” he said, and appealed to all to abide by the ‘time card’ implemented by the State Transport Department.
The meeting was attended, among others, by DCP (traffic) Ranjan Bhuyan. “If the city buses abide by the rules and regulations set by the RTA and the Transport department, traffic problems will be automatically reduced. The traffic system in the district will be streamlined,” Bhuyan said, besides seeking cooperation from all stakeholders.
ADC Bidyut Bikash Bhagawati and RTA secretary Bapon Kalita also spoke on time card and city bus routes. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Guwahati Transport Association, Greater Guwahati Delux Express City Bus Service Owners’ Association, Guwahati Metro Transport Association etc.
