GUWAHATI: The Axom Janata Dal (AJD) has alleged that thousands of RTI (Right to Information) applications for hearing have got piled up at the office of the State Information Commission.

Addressing the media here on Saturday, AJD executive president Bandeep Dutta said, "The RTI was introduced by former BJP Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. However, under the present BJP government in the State lakhs of RTI applications have been piled up in the State Information Commission, on the pretext of the corona-induced lockdown. The office of the Commission was closed for 62 days for the outbreak of corona. However, offices resumed since August. The reasons behind not holding the pending hearings are not known."
