GUWAHATI: Sadou Asom Sanmilita Shikshak Mancha (SASSM), an umbrella association of teachers, is seeking a replacement for Class VI’s science and mathematics textbooks in English with vernacular-medium textbooks. According to the decision of the state government, the science and mathematics textbooks for Class VI have already been published in English and have been distributed in all the schools. SASSM has demanded that both of these books be replaced with vernacular language textbooks as students are facing major problems. And the main problem is faced by rural areas.

SASSM said government schools provide school uniforms up to Class X; however, Classes XI and XII are not provided with uniforms. So, SASSM has demanded that for this academic session, classes XI and XII should be provided with uniforms, as they too are part of the secondary education department.

Admission and tuition fees are already free for EWS (Economically Weaker Section) students, but the government has not provided the refunded amount of money involved in the fee waiver schemes from 2020–21 until now. The money required for the printing of school magazines, brochures, prospectuses, and the essentials in the laboratory has not been paid, and the SASSAM has demanded the government release the required amount soon.

Under the Shiksha Setu App, the government has provided tablets to schools. The SASSAM demanded that SIM cards be provided and that monthly recharge funds be provided through the school inspector to all the schools.
