GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court, while refraining from allowing two bail petitions filed by tainted ex-ADC Saibar Rahman, has directed the lower court to expedite the process of reaching the consideration-of-charge stage and "pass an appropriate order on consideration of charge preferably within one month."

While hearing the bail petitions, the court said that since the charge-sheet has been filed, it would like to wait for the consideration-of-charge stage by the lower court. However, the court noted that Rahman "has been in judicial custody since long" and advised the lower court to reach the consideration-of-charge stage expeditiously.

It may be recalled that Rahman, former Additional Deputy Commissioner of Dhubri, was arrested by the Chief Minister's Special Vigilance Cell (CMSVC) in separate cases pertaining to irregularities in land allotment in Mankachar, possession of disproportionate assets and illegal appointment of Gaon Burahs.
