Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan names Lovlina Borgohain brand ambassador

On the 60th Teachers’ Day, State Education Minister Ranoj Pegu named Olympian Lovlina Borgohain as the brand ambassador of the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan in the state.

GUWAHATI: On the 60th Teachers' Day, State Education Minister Ranoj Pegu named Olympian Lovlina Borgohain as the brand ambassador of the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan in the state. The move is to boost girls' education.

Addressing the occasion observed centrally at Simanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra here on Sunday, Pegu said, "The Education Department lays stress on teachers' training to make the teachers of the state on a par with their counterparts in other states.

"The department has also laid stress on digital learning. We have decided to set up digital classrooms and digital laboratories. The department will get expanded to include digital education with the introduction of advanced technology. Tata Institute of Social Sciences will extend help in this regard."

Pegu said that the department would start publishing advertisements for the appointment of 23,000 teachers from September 9, 2021. To develop infrastructure, the department would release funds to 209 schools that have completed 75 years, he said.

The department gave away the Anundoram Baruah Award, 2018, to Professor (Late) Taburam Taid. On his behalf, his widow Basanti Taid received the award.

Thirty-six teachers got the meritorious award, five teachers got digital badges, and six got the 'Diksha bota' (initiation award) at the function.

Health Minister Keshab Mahanta was the chief guest at the function. Adviser to the Education Department, Nani Gopal Mahanta, was also present.
