Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's birth anniversary: Dispur to organize 3500 Unity Runs across State

In line with the celebration of National Unity Day on October 31, as many as 3,500 Unity Runs will be organized across Assam

GUWAHATI: In line with the celebration of National Unity Day on October 31, as many as 3,500 Unity Runs will be organized across Assam to celebrate the birth anniversary of great freedom fighter and the first Deputy Prime Minister as well as first Home Minister of Independent India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at Janata Bhawan on Wednesday to discuss the celebration of National Unity Day.

The Chief Minister said that altogether 3,500 unity runs will be organized across Assam with 100 unity runs per district. This will be organized by the respective district administrations involving students and the general public. He directed that pledge-taking ceremonies on national unity be held at all educational institutes and Government offices, which will be administered at 10:30 am on the day.

The Chief Minister also asked the State police force to take out march-past parade at all district headquarters to mark the celebration. He further asked the Chief Secretary to hold a video conference with all the Deputy Commissioners and Superintends of Police to discuss in detail about the celebration and take necessary measures to ensure successful celebration of the event.

Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika, PHED Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah and Power Minister Nandita Gorlosa, Chief Secretary Paban Kumar Barthakur, DGP Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta, Additional Chief Secretary Maninder Singh, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Samir Kumar Sinha and senior officials were present in the meeting.
