GUWAHATI: Two members of the Assam Police posted at the Satgaon Police Station of Guwahati have been summoned by the Deputy Commissioner of the Police of the East Guwahati district on Friday regarding the alleged charges of extortion. The Officer-In-Charge of Satgaon Police Station, Sandip Kumar Kanu, and the Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police, Alakesh Baruah, are the officials summoned by the higher authorities.

This step has been initiated after allegations came to light that the officials demanded money for the recovery of a stolen motorcycle from the victim. The victim refused to pay the bribe of Rs 5,000 for the investigation, and the officials denied registering the First Information Report in this regard. This triggered the man to reach out to the higher authorities and register a complaint, leading to this investigation. Alaskesh Baruah was also reserved for closure by his department on July 5 in connection to a gang-rape incident in the city. He was the investigating official in regard to a case wherein an elderly woman and her differently abled daughter were raped by several assailants.
