GUWAHATI: The BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) government has done corruption of Rs 6,000 crore in various departments of Assam during their regime, alleged Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora while addressing the a joint press meet here on Tuesday.
The press meet was coordinated by Anchalik Gana Morcha, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Communist Party of India, Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation, and All India United Democratic Front. Several senior leaders of all the parties were present during the press meet.
Bora stressed that the corruption done by the BJP government should be brought under the law.
"The investigation in the SI recruitment scam has been lacklustre. During the BJP regime, the funds allocated for various farmers' schemes have benefitted persons known to the party who have never seen an agricultural field in their life. Only one to two per cent of the farmers have been benefited from these schemes," said Bora.
The APCC also opposed the NRC (National Register of Citizens) State coordinator's direction to the DCs (Deputy Commissioners) of different districts to remove the names of the D-voters in the NRC.
Bora said the BJP has not given a chance to the 19 lakh people to raise their voice for excluding their names from the NRC. He questioned why the government has not made the names of D-voters public.
The APCC president also stressed on the anti-CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) agitation and said the party will never accept the Act at any cost. "We will restart the agitation," he added.
"Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal should not contest the elections by depending on foreign votebank. He is a big lier," said a CPI leader while addressing the media. The leader also took a jibe at Minister Pijush Hazarika and said he is not 'mentally stable.'
Further, MP Ajit Kumar Bhuyan slammed the government for criticizing the Opposition parties. He said the government is not shy to criticize. "At times the government's criticism is so harsh regarding certain issues that it backfires on them," added Bhuyan.
