'Otherwise reschedule process in 3rd week of June'

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: In view of the delay in conducting the 1st Unit evaluation of students of primary schools of Assam, the State Council for Educational Research and Training (SCERT) has advised the Mission Director of the Samagra Shiksha, Assam (SSA) to either consider Gunotsav 2022 as the 1st Unit evaluation for the ongoing academic session or reschedule the evaluation in the third week of June.

In a letter to the Mission Director with reference to a memorandum submitted by the Assam State Primary Teachers Association (ASPTA), SCERT Director Nirada Devi mentioned that the academic calendar was prepared as per the direction of the Academic calendar Committee constituted by the Government as joint venture of the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) and the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC). According to the academic calendar 2022-2023 uploaded on the SCERT and SSA websites in March, the 1st Unit evaluation was scheduled between June 1 and June 9.

It may be mentioned that the ASPTA submitted a memorandum to the secretary of the Elementary Education Department wherein it alleged that although two months have elapsed of the ongoing academic year, students of primary schools of the State are yet to receive practice and evaluation books "due to chaotic guidelines of the Education Department."

The ASPTA had further stated in the memorandum that as per the new academic calendar, the 1st Unit evaluation was supposed to be held between June 1 and June 9. However, the department sidelined this calendar and continued to conduct the third phase of Gunotsav 2022 in 10 districts of the State during this period. The Elementary Education Department did not bother to clarify whether the 1st Unit evaluation was to be held in primary schools of the remaining districts.

The ASPTA also called for ensuring that the students receive the long-overdue practice and evaluation books without further delay.
